Olukayode Victor Olusola, a student at Government Secondary School, Omu Aran, Kwara State, has distinguished himself in this year's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by scoring an impressive 362 marks.
According to Vanguard, Olukayode scored 95 marks each in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, and 77 in English Language.
Despite the Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Isaq Oloyede's decision not to disclose the highest scorer to prevent confusion, Olukayode's outstanding score is cause for celebration, reflecting one of the highest performances in recent years.
This accomplishment is particularly noteworthy against the backdrop of the overall poor performance of candidates in the examination, with 1.4 million candidates scoring less than 200 marks out of 400.
The UTME, taken by over 1.8 million candidates, has underscored concerns about educational standards.
Olukayode's stellar performance also shines a spotlight on the challenges facing public education, as confidence wanes amidst the perceived superiority of some private institutions.
His achievement is a testament to the potential excellence that exists within the public schooling system.
Born in 2009, Olukayode aspires to pursue Electrical Electronic studies at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
His mother, Beatrice Tosin, attributes his success to divine grace and praises his diligent and hardworking nature, highlighting the role of both innate talent and disciplined effort in academic success.
