Protesters Yank Off National Assembly Gate

بواسطة Samuel O . Adeniyi 2 أغسطس 2023 0

Today, Wednesday, August 2, angry protesters pull down the National Assembly gate in Abuja.

Kicking against the removal of fuel subsidy, the Nigeria Labour Congress embarked on a nationwide protest.

The protest was led by the leaders of the Organised Labour, Joe Ajaero of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Festus Osifo of the Trade Union Congress.

Security operatives stationed at the legislative building refusal to allow protesters into the National Assembly led to the pulling down of the gate

The protesters chanted slogans and carried placards with messages such as "No fuel subsidy, no vote" and "We say no to fuel price increase." They also called on the government to reverse its decision to remove the fuel subsidy.

The protest at the National Assembly is one of many protests that are taking place across Nigeria today. The protests are in response to the government's decision to remove the fuel subsidy, which has been met with widespread anger and disapproval.

The government has defended its decision to remove the subsidy, saying that it is necessary to save money and reduce corruption.

However, the unions have rejected the government's arguments, saying that the removal of the subsidy will only benefit the rich and powerful.

The protests are expected to continue until the government reverses its decision to remove the fuel subsidy.
