Justice Chima Centus Nweze, a justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, died at 64.
According to Daily Post, Justice Nweze died on Sunday, however, the Supreme Court has not yet confirmed his death as of press time.
Nweze was born on September 25, 1958, in Obollo, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State. He was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2014 by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Nweze was known for his dissenting opinions, including a 2020 ruling in which he declared Emeka Ihedioha of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the 2019 governorship election in Imo State. The Supreme Court later overturned that ruling, but Nweze's dissent was widely praised.
Nweze was also a member of the panel that ruled in favour of Ahmad Lawan in the 2022 Yobe North senatorial election case. The ruling was controversial, with some critics accusing the Supreme Court of bias.
