Nigerian Civil Service 2024 Promotion Exam Will Be Cbt - Chairman

POSTED ON March 22, 2024 •   Uncategorized      BY Samuel O . Adeniyi •   VIEWS 172

The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) in Nigeria is undergoing a significant modernization push, with a major announcement from its Chairman, Prof. Tunji Olaopa.

The upcoming 2024 promotion exercise will mark a shift from traditional methods, transitioning to a Computer Based Test (CBT) system.

This digital transformation aligns with the broader government agenda of modernizing and digitizing core operations within the Federal Civil Service.

Professor Olaopa, emphasizing the importance of meritocracy, stressed the need to address the "wage and compensation dimension" alongside competency-based HR practices.

He highlighted his discussions with the National Income, Salary and Wages Commission, expressing optimism that their insights will contribute positively to the FCSC's reform efforts.

The launch of a new monthly seminar series for senior officers further underscores the FCSC's commitment to transparency and accountability.

This platform fosters knowledge sharing and facilitates discussions on key reform issues and benchmarking practices.

Here are some key takeaways from the press release:

  • 2024 Promotion Exams Go Digital: The upcoming promotion exercise will be conducted entirely online, utilizing a CBT system.
  • Online Recruitment Portal Coming Soon: The FCSC plans to launch an online recruitment portal accessible to all Nigerians. This portal will allow eligible candidates to pre-fill and update recruitment forms, streamlining the application process.
  • Partnership with Educational Institutions: The FCSC is partnering with the National Open University (NOUN) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to leverage their expertise in online assessments.
  • Social Media Outreach and Mock Tests: The FCSC will utilize social media to educate civil servants about the new CBT process. Additionally, mock tests conducted by the Head of Service will be offered to prepare officers for the 2024 promotion exams.
  • Reform Plans Beyond Digitization: Professor Olaopa hinted at further phases of reform awaiting Presidential approval. These reforms aim to strengthen the FCSC's staff capacity and institutional structure to support long-term modernization efforts.

The FCSC's reform agenda is a significant step towards establishing a more professionalized and modernized Federal Civil Service, aligning with the government's "Renew-Hope Agenda."

By embracing technology and addressing compensation concerns, the FCSC seeks to create a meritocratic system that fosters efficiency and transparency.
