The Lagos State Government has identified 176 estates across the state as illegal for failing to obtain necessary layout approvals from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
The estates, mostly located in the Eti-Osa, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe areas, were listed in a recent document published by the Ministry.
Some of the estates named include Adron Homes in Elerangbe, Aina Gold Estate in Okun-Folu, Diamond Estate in Eputu, Prime Water View Garden in Ikate Elegushi, and Royal View Estate in Ikota.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Physical Planning, Oluwole Sotire, these illegal developments undermine the state’s commitment to sustainable urban development and the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, which aims to create a functional, organized, and resilient smart city.
Sotire, through a statement issued by the Ministry’s Public Affairs Director, gave estate owners a 21-day ultimatum to regularize their status by submitting the required layout approval documents at his office in the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
He warned that any estate owners who fail to comply within the 21-day deadline risk enforcement actions from the government.
Sotire emphasized that this enforcement is part of the Ministry’s mandate to regulate and monitor all real estate developments in Lagos State to ensure orderly growth and protect residents.
According to him, the government’s move underscores its dedication to curbing illegal developments and fostering a safe, well-planned environment for Lagos residents.
Sotire further urged all developers and real estate practitioners to register with the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA), which oversees standards and professionalism within the sector.
