In the quest for a successor to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area, Kehinde Almaroof-Oloyede, has begun mobilizing members of the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and residents to support Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, for the governor's position.
Almaroof-Oloyede described Seyi as a forward-thinking leader who is in tune with the aspirations of the youth and understands the perspectives of the older generation in Lagos.
In a statement released yesterday, the chairman, who has recently begun his second term, emphasized that Seyi has dedicated years to his NGO, mentoring numerous young people and positively impacting their lives without favoritism.
He argued that Seyi's achievements speak for themselves, transcending his family name, and highlighted that Seyi has prepared for leadership despite facing misunderstanding and underestimation from some he has supported.
Almaroof-Oloyede remarked that instead of retaliating against his detractors, Seyi has focused on public service and self-preparation for leadership, asserting that leadership is defined by impact, vision, and a willingness to serve.
He noted that choosing Seyi would not be inappropriate, especially since his father has guided many into leadership roles, and other political leaders are now positioning their families to continue their legacies.
Almaroof-Oloyede said, “Our people, particularly the youth, are craving leadership that aligns with today's realities and tomorrow's possibilities. We are seeking leaders who are visionary, digitally savvy, grounded in local affairs, but also globally minded.
The time for this future in Lagos is now, not a decade later. With utmost conviction, I declare: Ambassador Seyi Tinubu is the ideal candidate to guide Lagos into that future in 2027.”
He acknowledged that critics might point out, “He’s the President’s son.” But he questioned if that was all there is to Seyi. For over ten years, Seyi has quietly yet significantly contributed to youth development, civic participation, digital advancement, and entrepreneurship.
“Through the Loatsad Foundation, he has initiated innovative campaigns that encourage youth involvement in governance, as well as made strategic investments in tech-driven startups, clearly demonstrating that his commitment to Nigeria, especially Lagos, is far more than mere symbolism. His accomplishments speak more than his surname.”
He urged people to draw a distinction between preparation and privilege, asserting that Seyi has earned his merits through active involvement, thoughtful leadership, and a profound understanding of Lagos’ distinct challenges.
He has engaged with the people, participated in board meetings, listened to policy experts, and supported grassroots initiatives without seeking media recognition.
“He combines youthful energy with the wisdom of experience. Thus, running for governor is not about entitlement; it's a response to the demand from countless young Nigerians who view Seyi as someone who grasps digital governance, climate challenges, economic innovation, and the daily strains of urban life in Lagos.
“Lagos cannot postpone this. Our city requires a leader who understands the language of the future. Seyi Tinubu serves as the bridge between tradition and innovation, past and future.
We must not be guided by sentiment nor dismiss vision due to heritage; our focus should be on ability, character, and competence.
“I trust in his intellectual ability, well-rounded worldview, and profound vision for Lagos's future.
He embodies values of integrity, innovation, and service, representing a generation that remains connected to Lagos's heritage while being aware of its global potential.
“His experience in both the private sector and youth-oriented initiatives showcases a commitment to sustainable development and inclusive growth. “Seyi Tinubu deserves his chance.
He has established valuable relationships across the nation. He has showcased humility, resilience, and a readiness to serve.
He has faced misunderstanding, underestimation, and even defamation, but like Lagos itself, he remains resilient, focused, and forward-moving.”
