The Federal Government through the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, has announced the government's active pursuit in establishing a tribunal to prosecute individuals who commit environmental crimes nationwide.
Lawal made this announcement during a meeting with stakeholders in Abuja to mark World Environment Day on Thursday.
He expressed concern over the prevalence of unsustainable environmental practices in the country and identified enforcement failures as a major challenge.
Lawal emphasized the need for stricter enforcement and the upcoming establishment of a tribunal to expedite the trial of environmental crimes.
He urged stakeholders to support the government in enforcing existing environmental laws and emphasized the importance of improving legislation to protect the environment.
