The House of Representatives has formed an ad-hoc committee tasked with examining the Federal Government's execution of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Policy nationwide.
During an event in Abuja on Friday, committee Chairman Ahmadu Jaha (APC-Borno) stated that the committee's responsibilities include evaluating the safety, feasibility, and sustainability of the CNG policy in Nigeria.
The Borno lawmaker emphasized his commitment to ensuring a fair distribution of CNG centers across the six geopolitical zones in the country.
He expressed the committee's eagerness to collaborate with relevant government agencies, International Oil Companies, and other stakeholders to align the nation's CNG policy with global best practices.
In addition, the committee aims to assess the adequacy of the current regulatory and legal frameworks surrounding the CNG policy and will propose suitable legislative actions to the House.
"I encourage everyone to refer to the committee's mandate, as outlined in the votes and proceedings, to guide our discussions and improve upon the work plan being developed by the secretariat," he remarked.
It is noteworthy that the House, during its session on Thursday, May 2025, reviewed a motion titled "Call to establish more Compressed Natural Gas Conversion Centres across Nigeria" and urged the Federal Government to equitably set up CNG centers throughout the country to foster inclusivity among Nigerians.
The committee, comprised of 11 members, was inaugurated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, on Thursday.
