The Federal Government has assured civil servants that the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System database remains secure and has not been compromised.
The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, through the Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, issued a statement on Monday in Abuja to provide this assurance.
The statement was in response to a news report claiming that the 'IPPIS Payroll Validation' section on the official website had been hijacked by an unknown hacker and that workers' data stored on the IPPIS Secretariat's website was susceptible to attack due to an expired secure site layer feature that remained unrenewed for over a year.
The government is committed to maintaining and operating a safe and efficient personnel and payroll management system, according to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.
However, the IPPIS section of the website was still inaccessible when the report was filed.
The IPPIS database has not been compromised, and employees' personnel data is secure, as stated by the OAGF.
The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has implemented an ICT Security Policy to safeguard its digital assets, aligning with global best practices in cybersecurity.
The IPPIS website is used solely for information sharing, not for transactions or storing sensitive data.
The IPPIS Validation Portal, developed for a specific period, has been permanently shut down.
The OAGF acknowledges the importance of the IPPIS to Nigerian workers and has put in place mechanisms to resolve any issues that may arise
