The Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Prof Edward Olanipekun, said the university had promoted 70 academic staff of the institution to the rank of professor and 60 others to reader cadre.
Olanipekun spoke in Ado Ekiti during a chat with journalists.
He hinted the institution's readiness to begin new programmes, including Doctor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Dental Surgery.
Olanipekun said, “Very recently, we promoted 70 academic staff to the rank of Professor and they cut across all departments and faculties.
"We equally promoted 60 to the position of readers, which is equivalent to Associate Professor. The council has approved all the promotions. What should interest you is that in the Faculty of Law, we now have seven professors from the two we had initially.
“We are also in the process of commencing new programmes in the university and one such programme is Doctor of Pharmacy. We are expecting the result of the visitation panels both from NUC as well as the professional regulatory agency. We are still expecting their reports.
“We are optimistic that the report will be positive and if the outcome is positive, that means we will admit into the programmes i.e Doctor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Dental Surgery.”
