The Ogun police command has announced the deployment of sufficient personnel to maintain strict security during the bye-election in the Remo Federal constituency scheduled for Saturday.
CSP Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, made this known in a statement released on Friday in Abeokuta.
The Remo Federal constituency includes the Sagamu, Ikenne, and Remo North Local Government areas.
“To ensure a credible and transparent election, voters must comply with electoral laws and avoid engaging in vote buying or any activities that could disrupt public peace. Relevant laws will be enforced against anyone who violates them.
“Movement across the three local governments will be restricted from 12:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and police stop-and-search teams along with other operational units will be strategically positioned,” she mentioned.
Additionally, the police spokesperson noted that state commissioner of police, Lanre Ogunlowo, during a briefing with officers ahead of the election, stressed the importance of operatives being professional, civil, and impartial.
“The command, in collaboration with other security agencies, along with additional personnel from Zone 2 Command in Lagos, has established strong security measures to prevent election-related violence.
“To guarantee a credible, transparent, and violence-free election, voters are urged to follow electoral laws.
“Activities such as campaigning, vote buying, distributing flyers, or displaying political stickers at polling stations are forbidden,” she stated.
Odutola called for the cooperation of all voters and warned those with harmful intentions to stay away from polling sites, as any attempt to interfere with the process will face severe consequences.
