The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Thursday, urged employers of corps members to establish movement and attendance registers to effectively monitor their performance at primary assignment locations.
The NYSC Coordinator for Gombe State, Chinwe Nwachuku, made this announcement at a one-day workshop for corps employers and managers, themed “Strengthening NYSC/ Corps Employers’ Partnership for Enhanced Mutual Benefits in Gombe State.”
Nwachuku emphasized, “If a corps member did not fulfill their work obligations, do not issue them a clearance letter. We need movement and attendance registers for monitoring.”
During the workshop's opening, Ahmed Abdullahi, Head of Gombe Civil Service, encouraged employers to foster relationships with corps members and enhance their welfare.
“Involve them in your organizations. Even after providing accommodation, make sure to check on them; it will give them a feeling of belonging.
This service is temporary, marking the beginning of their professional journey,” he stated.
The NYSC DG, Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, represented by Aishatu Adamu, Director of North-East Area Office II Taraba, urged corps employers nationwide to renew their commitment to their statutory duties, cautioning against the rising negligence that threatens the Scheme’s objectives, which has resulted in increased truancy, lower productivity, and a growing number of service evasion cases.
He noted that the annual workshop serves as an essential platform for aligning viewpoints, addressing operational hurdles, and formulating policies that govern corps administration.
