Vice President Kashim Shettima commended Zenith Bank, one of the largest financial institutions in Nigeria, for fostering a culture of innovation and integrity that has become integral to the country's financial standards.
He highlighted that Zenith Bank, beyond its role in safeguarding Nigeria's wealth, has also played a crucial part in realizing the nation's aspirations, solidifying its position as the largest bank in Nigeria by Tier-One capital.
During the bank's 35th anniversary celebration in Lagos, his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, conveyed Shettima's remarks, noting that since its inception in July 1990, Zenith Bank has catalyzed a transformation in the corporate culture of the nation.
The bank's remarkable achievements have earned it the title of Nigeria's number one bank for 16 consecutive years, establishing it as a standard bearer in the African business landscape.
Celebrating Zenith Bank's 35-year journey, Shettima remarked on its ethos—where innovation is inherent, integrity is fundamental, and serving humanity is as crucial as serving shareholders.
He expressed gratitude on behalf of the Nigerian government and its people, honoring Zenith Bank, Mr. Jim Ovia, and Dame Adaora Umeoji.
He expressed hopes that the next 35 years would see the bank continue to break barriers and set new standards, emphasizing that, in Nigeria, excellence is an aspiration, not an anomaly.
Attending the anniversary as a proud former employee, Shettima contrasted banks that prioritize profit with those that make history, affirming that Zenith Bank stands out.
He described it as a family that collaborates, supports each other, and envisions a promising future. Zenith Bank has not only expanded its branches globally but also broadened opportunities.
He praised Chief Jim Ovia, the Chairman/Founder, calling him a visionary and transformative leader.
Shettima recognized Ovia's lasting impact on banking long before technology became essential in finance, crediting him for integrating innovation into the very fabric of Nigerian banking.
Ovia introduced a standard of excellence that transcends profit, emphasizing the importance of the people within the institution.
Shettima also applauded Zenith Bank's commitment to continuity, which entrusted leadership to its first female Group Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Adaora Umeoji, describing the bank's journey as a relay of trust and grace.
Today, Dr. Adaora Umeoji carries this mantle with competence as the first woman to lead the bank in its notable history.
