The National Board for Technical Education and Examination Board (NABTEB) conducted a training session for its directorate cadre staff on Wednesday to enhance the board's future, aiming to boost their ability to fulfill its primary responsibilities.
The training theme was “Enhancing the Future of NABTEB.” During the workshop's opening, Aminu Muhammed, the registrar/CEO, emphasized that the training would tackle essential issues crucial to NABTEB’s operational effectiveness and corporate integrity.
He remarked, “The timing of this program is especially fitting as the public service sector is becoming more intricate, necessitating agility, transparency, and strategic foresight.
Public institutions are increasingly expected to uphold high standards of accountability and professionalism.
At NABTEB, we must not only conform to this model but also set the standard.” The registrar pointed out that the theme was intentionally selected to demonstrate the board’s ongoing dedication to institutional growth and leadership renewal.
He indicated that the knowledge gained from the training would empower directors to show dedication and transparency in their roles across the NABTEB system, leading to further development.
He also discussed the negative effects of corruption in the public sector, highlighting that the lessons from the training would aid directors in showcasing their commitment and integrity in fulfilling their NABTEB responsibilities.
He noted, “A single lapse in leadership judgment can undermine years of public service, which is why ethics, transparency, and accountability must remain central to our leadership model.”
He acknowledged that there are issues with documentation at the board, stressing the importance of effective communication and documentation among directors, as it influences decision-making at all levels. Additionally, Mr. Mohammed mentioned that the training was part of a larger vision to enhance NABTEB’s relevance, impact, and credibility in both the national and global examination realms.
He stated, “As senior managers, policymakers, and implementers, you are the leadership backbone of NABTEB. It is essential that we continually invest in your growth, knowledge, and capacity to lead with insight, integrity, and innovation.”
He expressed confidence that by the end of the training, NABTEB would be better informed, equipped, and ready to guide the agency to greater achievements.
In a goodwill message, Teni Ajayi, zonal director of the Nigerian Television Authority in Benin, remarked that the process of self-discovery, skill enhancement, and strategic planning would elevate NABTEB to new levels.
She highlighted that the training would enhance NABTEB’s role in Nigeria’s education system, especially in advancing technical and vocational education, evaluating students’ skills, and providing certification for employability.
“NTA Benin Zone anticipates ongoing synergy and collaboration, leveraging our mutual dedication to excellence, creativity, and nation-building,” she added.
In his introductory comments, Henry Johnson mentioned that the workshop represented a significant step forward in the agency's journey toward institutional and leadership accountability.
He urged participants to view the training not merely as a refresher but as a commitment to the values of excellence, integrity, and professionalism.
