The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has initiated an investigation into an incident involving well-known Fuji artist, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also referred to as K1 De Ultimate, regarding a suspected violation of airport security regulations at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
In a statement released on Wednesday, FAAN indicated that the incident took place on Monday, August 5, 2025, during the boarding process for a ValueJet Airlines flight (Flight VK 201) to Lagos.
The announcement, signed by Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, stated, “Preliminary investigations confirmed that the passenger was scheduled to board the morning flight to Lagos operated by ValueJet Airlines (Flight VK 201).
“During the boarding process, the passenger attempted to bring aboard an unidentified liquid substance despite numerous warnings from Aviation Security personnel and the Flight Captain.”
FAAN clarified that the musician attempted to board the plane with a flask containing a liquid, thus violating aviation security rules that forbid liquids over 100ml in hand luggage.
“In line with international aviation security regulations, specifically, Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme and ICAO Annex 17, liquids exceeding 100ml are not allowed through security screening unless medically required and properly declared.
“The passenger was made aware of this regulation but reportedly refused to comply,” the statement continued. Tensions heightened when the musician did not step aside for further checks.
“As boarding progressed, an airline security officer requested the passenger to step aside for further verification.
The passenger reportedly declined and spilled the contents of the flask on the officer, which turned out to be alcohol. The Flight Captain tried to intervene but encountered similar resistance.
Following confirmation that boarding was finished, she requested the aircraft door to be closed,” FAAN added.
The situation escalated further when the musician moved towards the aircraft's front and refused to leave the area despite repeated requests from airline staff.
“He was eventually escorted away by the AVSEC crime unit for further inquiry, after which he was released,” the statement mentioned.
FAAN condemned the disturbance and stressed that the investigation is ongoing.
“FAAN reiterates its strong commitment to the safety and security of all passengers, crew, and airport personnel.
The Authority will not accept any actions that compromise operational integrity or diminish aviation safety standards, irrespective of the individuals involved,” it stated.
The agency assured the public that all parties found responsible will face legal consequences.
“FAAN is dedicated to maintaining the highest levels of professionalism, safety, and regulatory compliance at all Nigerian airports,” concluded the statement.
