President Joe Biden on Monday hailed Philadelphians for their votes to enable him to win Delaware Senate's seat which he represented for nearly 40 years in the U.S.
Biden, who gave the commendation during a campaign, noted, “Even when I was running for Senate, each time I ran, Philadelphia, in particular, got me across the line.
“No, I’m not joking,” he said as people cheered and applauded.
“No, I mean it, seriously, organizationally, and in terms of fundraising — the whole deal.”
Mr. Biden served as U.S. senator for Delaware from 1973 to 2009 before becoming former President Obama’s vice president.
While Mr. Biden’s residence in Wilmington and other parts of northern Delaware are in the Philadelphia designated market-area region, the city would not have helped him win the Senate seat since only state residents can vote for senators.
Mr. Biden was in Philadelphia and Harrisburg on Sunday for campaign events.
