In a renewed initiative to enhance the agricultural sector in Kano State, Governor Abba Yusuf has issued employment letters to 1,038 newly hired agricultural extension agents and support personnel under the Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority.

The event, which took place on Monday at the Coronation Hall of the Government House in Kano, represents a significant advancement in the state government’s efforts to bolster food security and enhance rural livelihoods through modern farming techniques.

As stated by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the extension workers are tasked with promoting sustainable farming methods, offering guidance to farmers, and acting as vital links between governmental policies and rural communities.

In his address to the new hires, Yusuf emphasized the importance of diligence, discipline, and a strong sense of duty.

He cautioned, “You must reject absenteeism, laziness, misconduct, and all forms of corruption. Your dedication will play a crucial role in the success of our mission to revitalize farming throughout the state,” he warned.

The governor characterized the recruits as “change agents” who would foster innovation in agriculture by advising farmers on better practices, connecting them with improved resources, and reinforcing cooperative systems.

“While Kano maintains its lead in the number of extension workers across the country, we deemed it essential to expand our workforce to reposition KNARDA under the Ministry of Agriculture,” he noted.

Yusuf also praised the efforts of the State Ministry of Agriculture, KNARDA, the Civil Service Commission, and other key stakeholders for their role in facilitating the recruitment process.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Danjuma Mahmoud, mentioned that the decision to hire additional extension staff aimed to enhance food production and increase farmers’ incomes.

Likewise, Ladidi Garko, the Chairperson of the Kano State Civil Service Commission, referred to the mass recruitment as a decisive step towards strengthening the state's agricultural workforce.

One of the newly appointed staff, Saminu Garba, expressed gratitude on behalf of the recruits, thanking the governor for the opportunity and assuring their dedication to supporting the administration’s agricultural objectives.
