Africa Magic and Multichoice, owners of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, have announced new changes to the continental awards ceremony in line with global trends and benchmarks.
This was recently announced by the Head of Content and Channels West Africa at MultiChoice, Dr. Busola Tejumola.
The 10th edition of the AMVCAs, according to the organizers, will present prizes in 2 categories: 16 non-voting and 9 audience-voted categories, as well as two recognition awards: the Trailblazer and Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Similarly, the performance awards, which were formerly chosen by the public and viewers, have been streamlined and will now be awarded to the best actor or actress in a leading or supporting role, with the jury selecting the winners.
Best Lead Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Director, Art Direction, Cinematography, and Costume Design are among the non-voting categories. Additional categories include Best Sound Design, Editing, and Makeup; Best Short Film; Best Documentary; Best Movie and TV Series; and Best Writing in a Movie and TV Series.
As in the past, the public will select the winners in the eight audience voting categories, while the jury, which is composed of seasoned filmmakers from all across the continent and is chaired by a chief judge, will decide the winners in the sixteen non-voting categories. Deloitte will audit the vote process and confirm the results, as usual.
Winners in categories such as Best Digital Content Creator, Best Indigenous Language (West, East, and Southern Africa), Best Multichoice Talent Factory Film, Best Indigenous Africa Magic Original, and Best Scripted and Unscripted Africa Magic Original will now be determined by the power of public votes.
