Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi has appointed Chinese national Li Zhensheng as the economic adviser to his administration.
The announcement was made on Thursday during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the state government and the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre in Bauchi.
The governor stated that this appointment aims to position the state as a center for global partnerships, boost foreign investments, and enhance infrastructure development. “We are opening Bauchi to the world,” Mohammed expressed.
“As part of this agreement, a Bauchi State Representative Office will be set up in China to monitor project execution and ensure timely completion.”
He emphasized that this initiative seeks to strengthen cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, education, healthcare, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, and trade facilitation, aligning with the diplomatic goals of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu to foster relationships at both national and subnational levels.
“This agreement goes beyond infrastructure—it’s about changing lives,” Mr. Mohammed remarked, highlighting that the initiative aims to attract direct investment, generate jobs, enhance skills, modernize crucial sectors, and elevate the state’s global standing.
In his comments, Zhensheng, the head of the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre, assured that the Centre would mobilize resources to promote Bauchi’s economic development.
“We are dedicated to supporting Bauchi in achieving sustainable growth, modern infrastructure, and better living standards,” Zhensheng stated. The MoU provides a framework for collaborative projects, with specific agreements to be formulated as needed.
