Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, stated that detectives from the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Surulere conducted an intelligence-driven operation on July 17, 2025, in the Ebute Meta area, resulting in the arrests.
The suspects are believed to have participated in a cult conflict in Ebute Meta and surrounding regions that led to Kamoru’s death.
Hundeyin noted that efforts are ongoing to capture additional members of the group and recover their operational equipment. On July 12, 2025, police operatives also arrested 26-year-old ex-convict Bello Aminu, who was found with an unregistered Toyota Camry believed to have been stolen from a victim.
The Command reported that the suspect admitted to the crime during questioning.
Additionally, the police recovered a 2021 Lexus hybrid jeep, valued at over N75 million, which was reportedly about to be sold for N60 million without proper documents, raising suspicions of theft or that it had been stolen from abroad.
In another incident, a Suzuki minibus utilized for "one-chance" robbery in Lagos was seized, leading to the arrest of five suspects.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Olohundare, praised the officers involved in these arrests and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the police.
He emphasized the continuous logistical and operational support provided to the Lagos State Police Command by Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, which has significantly improved their ability to secure the state and reduced response times to emergencies to approximately five minutes.
