Telecom Egypt, the country's leading telecommunications service provider, has entered into a strategic partnership with Huawei Cloud to establish Huawei's first locally-based public cloud platform in Egypt.
This initiative aims to support the country's digital transformation strategy.
According to Techpoint, the new public cloud platform will be hosted in Telecom Egypt's data centres. It will leverage over 14 submarine cable systems, a number expected to increase to 18 by 2025, to extend its reach to more than 60 countries globally.
This collaboration aligns with Telecom Egypt's strategy to position Egypt as a regional hub for cloud computing and digital services.
In addition to hosting the cloud platform, Telecom Egypt will integrate Huawei Cloud solutions with its existing infrastructure, ensuring a seamless transition and efficient management.
Huawei Cloud offers businesses a variety of scenario-based solutions and over 240 advanced professional services, including cloud construction, migration, utilization, and management.
The company aims to provide businesses in Egypt with a secure and reliable cloud environment, enabling them to focus on innovation and growth.
Mohamed Nasr, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Telecom Egypt, highlighted the significance of this partnership:
“This cooperation represents a significant milestone in our commitment to empowering businesses with cutting-edge technologies. Telecom Egypt’s hosting services will enable access to all networks in Egypt, supporting businesses and contributing to Telecom Egypt’s vision of becoming a thriving global digital hub through its associated ecosystem.”
In recent years, Huawei has established a strong presence in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) regions. This latest venture with Telecom Egypt is expected to enhance Huawei’s profile, focusing on the evolving needs of the market.
The new public cloud will provide Egypt-based businesses across various industries with access to advanced cloud solutions, driving sectors such as e-commerce, live streaming, and the sharing economy.
Additionally, the launch of the cloud platform is anticipated to create job opportunities for young people in Egypt and several other countries in North, West, and Central Africa.
In related news, Google has opened its first Africa cloud region in South Africa, reflecting the growing investment in cloud infrastructure across the continent.
This trend underscores the importance of local cloud hosting for businesses, as seen in the advantages offered by initiatives like Layer3cloud in Nigeria.
