The Nigerian military held a sombre funeral on Saturday for some of the military officers who were killed in combat in Niger State on August 14.
The funeral was held at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja and was attended by family members, friends, and senior military officers.
The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, led the delegation of government officials at the funeral. He was joined by the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa, and other service chiefs.
The funeral began with a prayer service, followed by a gun salute. The deceased soldiers were then laid to rest in individual graves.
The names of the deceased soldiers were not released, but the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said that 36 officers were killed in battle, including an air mission.
The DHQ also said that some of the deceased officers had already been buried by their families.
