Agents from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly raided the Green Legacy Hotel, situated within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, apprehending several youths believed to be involved in internet fraud.
According to information gathered, the raid occurred in the early hours of Sunday during a pool party at the library premises.
This incident follows a similar operation just five days prior, where EFCC operatives from the Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested a suspected internet fraudster armed with two locally-made pistols during a raid at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro, which resulted in the arrest of 55 others.
A viral video captured from the Sunday raid at the Obasanjo Library showed youths fleeing for safety amidst gunfire.
A number of youths were taken into custody, and the operatives seized "over 20 luxury cars and other high-value items." Sources indicate that the operation involved EFCC agents from the Lagos Directorate.
An X user, A. Ayomide, shared that he left home shortly past midnight to go to OOPL, but upon arrival, the crowd was overwhelming, prompting him to stay in the car park with a friend.
Twenty minutes after returning home at 1:30 AM, he received calls informing him about the EFCC raid at OOPL. Vitalis Ortese, the Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, acknowledged the incident but did not provide further details, stating, "Yes, they did.
There was an incident this morning. We will find out and we will let you know." When reached for comment, Ayo Oyewole, the spokesperson for the Lagos zonal command of the EFCC, indicated he was not aware of the operation but would follow up. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale also promised to verify and respond.
