The Association for Information and Communication Technology on Local Content (ICTLOCA) and the Association of Telecommunications, Information Technology Cable Satellite and Allied Services Employers of Nigeria (ATICEN) have urged the Federal Government to prioritize addressing the challenges facing the telecoms sector in order to to enhance the digital economy.
In a position statement, the stakeholders said that failure to take necessary steps to resolve issues such as promoting local content will hinder the growth of the sector.
The President of ICTLOCA, Gbolahan Awonuga, emphasized the importance of local content in addressing the sector's challenges and shaping Nigeria's digital future.
Additionally, the President of the ATICEN, Comrade Adede John-Williams, stressed the need for the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, to convene a roundtable discussion with industry operators and stakeholders to address these challenges.
Williams also highlighted the importance of involving telecoms operators in the Universal Service Provision Fund Committee for the implementation of rural telephony projects, as they possess the expertise and understanding of the challenges involved.
He emphasized that without their involvement, the committee may not be able to effectively utilize the fund for its intended purpose.
