Actress Sophie Turner and musician Joe Jonas have reached a temporary agreement regarding the custody of their two daughters, 3-year-old Willa and 14-month-old amidst an ongoing legal dispute.
This arrangement, confirmed through legal documents filed in New York on Monday, mandates that the children must remain in New York.
Under the interim consent order, Turner, 27, and Jonas, 34, have agreed to keep their children within the Southern and Eastern districts of New York, encompassing areas like New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley.
The documents state, "The parties have agreed to the entry of the attached proposed Interim Consent Order, without prejudice to either party's claims and defences, prohibiting the removal of the parties' children from the jurisdictions of the United States District Courts for the Southern & Eastern Districts of New York pending further order of this Court."
Furthermore, the documents stress that any violation of this order could lead to legal actions under federal or state law to ensure the children's well-being and prevent their removal or concealment before a final decision is reached.
This development follows Sophie Turner's lawsuit against Joe Jonas, alleging wrongful retention of their daughters and claiming he withheld their passports, preventing their return to England.
Turner's legal team argued that this "wrongful retention" began on September 20, despite prior discussions where they agreed that England would be their "forever home."
In response, Jonas released a statement countering Turner's claims, stating that he believed they had reached an understanding regarding co-parenting.
He explained, "Joe and Sophie had a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids.
They have been with her since that meeting. Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup."
Turner and Jonas announced their separation in 2019 and have sought to navigate the complexities of co-parenting while addressing the legal aspects of their custody dispute.
