Spanish champions Barcelona kicked off their Liga season on Saturday with an easy win, overpowering Mallorca 3-0 while playing against just nine men for much of the match.
Lamine Yamal assisted Raphinha for the opening goal just seven minutes in.
Yamal was instrumental in the second goal at the 23-minute mark; after Mallorca defender Antonio Raillo deflected Yamal's shot and then collapsed, Ferran Torres capitalized on the loose ball and scored from the edge of the area.
Manu Morlanes was one of two Mallorca players cautioned for dissent after expressing that the game should have been stopped.
Shortly after, Morlanes picked up a second yellow card for a foul on the impressive Yamal, resulting in his dismissal.
In the 39th minute, a dangerous high challenge from Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi on Barcelona's debut goalkeeper Joan Garcia led to Muriqi also receiving a red card.
Barcelona cruised through the second half, and just before the final whistle, Yamal added a third goal, capping off the match. In other matches, Valencia faced Real Sociedad and Alaves hosted Levante, while Atletico Madrid began their season at home against Sevilla the following day.
Real Madrid will finish the opening round on Tuesday against Osasuna. Earlier, Jorge de Frutos netted the first goal of the La Liga season, helping Rayo Vallecano secure a 3-1 victory over 10-man Girona, while Real Oviedo's return to the top tier ended in a disappointing 2-0 loss at Villarreal.
