*Says renovation serves to boost learning, environment
*Quality environment of learning will boost performance
The Old Students Association, Orita Community High School, 2004 set, has pulled resources together to renovate facilities in the school to boost learning.
The president of the association, Tpl Uwala Vincent Abimbola, said the initiative was part of activities lined up to boost conducive learning and promote quality education.
Uwala, who doubles as Lecturer, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro spoke during the 20th reunion anniversary and inauguration of the facilities on Saturday in Oja Odan, Ogun state.
He said, "Our Class of 2004 has thrived in various spheres of life. We are proud to count among us engineer, successful business tycoons, renowned artisans, lecturer among others making waves across different sectors.
"Our achievements in these fields stand as a testament to the quality of education we received in Orita Community High school, and we continue to excel in our respective professions, contributing meaningfully to society.
"We are proud of our achievements and we realize that given back to our alma mater is germane to boost leaning. This is why we took on the responsibility of giving back to our alma mater by renovating a classroom."
The president said the initiative became pertinent to enhance the academic performance of students.
Uwala said, "Research shows that a conducive learning environment directly correlates with improved academic performance. We want today's students to have the best possible conditions to learn, grow, and excel—something we believe cannot be achieved by the government alone.
"It is noteworthy that this project was undertaken during a period of economic crisis in the country when many are struggling to make ends meet. Yet, despite these challenges, our members—both home and abroad—contributed generously to make this project a reality."
He hailed the presence of the Royal father, Oloja of Oja Odan, Oba Engr Oyebanji Adetunji Olowobese, saying "Your unwavering commitment to education is well-known.
"Your numerous initiatives since ascending the throne, including sponsoring quizzes and debates, supporting back-to-school programs and infrastructure projects, are testament to your commitment to educational advancement in our community," he added.
The reunion, according to him, has birth significant benefits; boost employment opportunities, unity and networking among members.
"Over the past two years, we have achieved several milestones. By coming together, we have been able to assist some of our colleagues gain meaningful employment—demonstrating the power of unity and networking.
"We have made it a priority to support each other and offering financial aid when needed as a sign of solidarity.
"Furthermore, we have initiated an economic empowerment program. Our zero-interest business loan initiative has benefited several members, helping them improve their livelihoods without the burden of high-interest rates. This initiative exemplifies our belief that success is best when shared," the president explained.
He continued that, "We understand the importance of knowledge and have created a platform to share invaluable information that benefits all members, whether it's job opportunities, health tips, or business advice. Knowledge is the key to progress, and by sharing it, we ensure that no one is left behind.
"We have also introduced an annual end-of-year welfare package where food items are distributed to some members. This gesture is our way of showing that, regardless of how tough times may be, we are always there to support each other."
The president noted that the milestone underscored the association unwavering commitment to delivering quality education and significantly enhancing the learning environment for the students.
Uwala who extolled the Old Students' for their contributions in making the project achievable, appreciated the principals and teachers while charging the students to take their studies seriously, saying, "the world is full of opportunities, and by working hard and staying focused, you, too, can one day return to give back to this great institution. You are the future, and we believe in your potential."
Earlier, the chairman, planning committee, Mr Femi Akanbi, while delivering his welcome address said the classroom renovation project we are commissioning today is a testament to our commitment to ensuring that future generations will have a better learning environment.
He urged the association to do more and bolster it's commitment to making a landmark different.
Mrs Justina Chinwe-Nnorom, Principal, Orita Community High School (Junior), while appreciating the old Students for their sterling performance in giving back to their alma mater, urged them to collaborate "and seek ways to power the computer units of the school to accelerate knowledge in information and technology in this age. To this effect solar system installation is urgently needed. I appeal to the association to look into the need areas of the school and assist appropriately."
In a similar vein, Oba Olowobese who commissioned the renovated project extolled the association contribution to promoting quality environment for learning for the students to bolster performance.
