Nigerian Army troops, along with Department of State Services (DSS) operatives and hybrid forces, eliminated several terrorists during a gun battle in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The operation was launched based on intelligence regarding plans by the terrorists to attack the residents of Iburu village.
According to a statement from the DSS on Monday, the terrorists were spotted nearing the village on motorcycles when security forces intervened.
"On Friday evening, troops of the Nigerian Army and hybrid forces, supported by DSS intelligence, killed at least 45 bandits terrorizing the area in Iburu village, Shiroro LGA, Niger State.
The DSS quickly informed soldiers on standby upon receiving intelligence that the terrorists on multiple motorcycles were approaching Iburu and nearby villages. A gunfight broke out, resulting in the troops killing a minimum of 45 terrorists.
The villagers reported counting around 40 dead bodies believed to be those of the bandits and also noted that many of the bandits' motorcycles were destroyed during the clash," the statement indicated.
Unfortunately, two members of the hybrid forces sacrificed their lives, while four others who were wounded from gunfire have been admitted to a public hospital in the state capital for treatment.
"Two hybrid forces members who fought alongside the soldiers lost their lives, and four others are currently receiving medical care for serious gunshot wounds at a public hospital in the state capital," it further stated.
