The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) authorities have officially communicated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, requesting the removal of illegal structures situated in close proximity to the Bill Clinton Air Force Base. The NAF contends that these structures pose a risk to the military facility and violate federal government property laws.
The letter, titled "Request for Relocation of Illegal Structures at Nigerian Air Force Land, Bill Clinton Drive, Abuja," was signed by Air Commodore JU Usman, the Commander NAF Camp, Abuja, on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff. It highlights the trespassing on NAF land located at Nuwalege Village, Bill Clinton Drive, Abuja, emphasizing that such encroachment is a violation of property regulations and raises serious security concerns.
The letter states, "There is, therefore, the need to relocate these illegal structures and/or shanties to reduce the security risk posed by the structures, including the inhabitants while adhering to land regulations." The Minister is kindly requested to authorize the relocation of the shanties at NAF land, Nuwalege Airport Road.
The communication underscores the NAF's efforts to resolve the situation, as the presence of unlawful residents in the shanties and illegal structures had already started to pose a security risk to military hardware and other vital facilities crucial to the nation's security.
Sources reveal that the NAF had previously attempted various measures to persuade the occupants to vacate the area before resorting to official communication with the FCT Minister. The prompt and favorable disposition of the request is sought to mitigate the security risks posed by these structures.
