Timi Frank, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Publicity Secretary, claimed that security agencies used the alarm over an alleged plot to install an Interim National Government (ING) as an excuse to detain Atiku Abubakar, the PDP's presidential candidate, and Peter Obi, the LP's candidate, before the May 29 election.
A plot to undermine democracy by imposing an interim administration on the nation was alleged by the DSS on Wednesday.
In a statement released on Thursday, Frank claimed that the agency's security alert was intended as a cover for repressing peaceful demonstrators who were protesting the rigged 2023 presidential election and for mass arrests of opposition politicians across the nation.
He felt that the DSS should have employed the same information to prevent the abuse and murder of Nigerians by terrorist organizations over the years.
"The DSS's claimed intelligence is fake," he declared. It is a scheme to suppress protests and detain political figures from the opposition before May 29.
"We have reliable information that the DSS made the statement in advance of its planned interference with an ongoing demonstration by Nigerians who are demonstrating peacefully to demand justice and the restoration of their stolen mandate."
"Where was their intelligence when Mahmood Yakubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission were compromised to rig the 2023 general election?" he questioned.
