The spokesperson for the President, Bayo Onanuga, criticized former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai for making harsh comments about the Bola Tinubu administration.
In an interview with Arise TV, El-Rufai stated that Tinubu would need a miracle to secure re-election in 2027, citing a poll conducted by his team that indicated a 91% disapproval rating for Tinubu in the South East and North, with Lagos' disapproval rating at 78%.
Onanuga responded via his X account, referencing a statement from former President Olusegun Obasanjo's memoir, "My Watch," which criticized El-Rufai.
He suggested that El-Rufai often tries to present himself as being more significant than he is.
Onanuga shared an excerpt from Obasanjo's book stating that El-Rufai has a tendency for reputation destruction and pointed out issues with his loyalty and honesty.
Obasanjo described how El-Rufai allegedly damaged the reputation of his uncle and mentioned a troubling incident involving his half-brother in the Air Force.
In the memoir, published in 2014, Obasanjo noted that El-Rufai struggles with a "small man syndrome."
El-Rufai is among the opposition political figures forming a coalition to challenge Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
In March, he left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
