ABUJA, Nigeria - The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for July 24, set to take place at its national secretariat in Abuja.
Festus Faunter, the party's deputy national secretary, announced this on Monday in Abuja following a closed-door session of its National Working Committee (NWC).
He mentioned that the meeting was prompted by the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as APC's national chairman for health reasons last Friday, a decision that the NWC accepted with gratitude and well wishes.
Faunter stated, “Any actions we take now, including the endorsement of an acting national chairman, will require the NEC's approval. If a new chairman is nominated during the NEC meeting, we will accept that and await the convention for a final decision.”
He also confirmed that a notice for the NEC meeting had been sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Additionally, Faunter mentioned that the NWC talked about preparations for upcoming by-elections in states experiencing legislative vacancies due to deaths or resignations and outlined preliminary plans for ward, local government, and state congresses, with dates to be announced later.
He indicated that the NEC, being the party's highest decision-making body, is expected to discuss its future strategies, including leadership succession, internal restructuring, and plans for the 2027 general elections.
Ali Dalori has assumed the role of acting national chairman of the APC, committing to transparency and inclusiveness to guide the party's activities with a unified purpose. Dalori, who previously served as the APC deputy national chairman (North-East), made these commitments during a meeting with the party's NWC.
President Bola Tinubu instructed Dalori to manage the APC's affairs following Ganduje's resignation last Friday.
“In accordance with our party's constitution and President Tinubu's directive, I have taken over as acting national chairman following Ganduje's resignation,” asserted Dalori.
