President Bola Tinubu stressed Africa's commitment to preventing the recurrence of past coups on the continent.
Tinubu said this while speaking at the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Sunday,
He expressed Africa's dedication to upholding democracy and the rule of law.
In a recent development, Tinubu was elected as the Chairman of the League of ECOWAS Presidents during the 63rd Ordinary Session of the regional bloc held in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau.
Addressing the gathering, Tinubu stated, "We are determined to put an end to the cycle of coups in Africa. Our commitment to democracy extends beyond our borders, and we are ready to collaborate with the African Union as well as other international partners such as the European Union, Britain, and America."
Acknowledging the challenges associated with managing democracy, Tinubu emphasized that it remains the best form of government, and all member countries are dedicated to its principles. Following his election, Tinubu received handover documents from the outgoing chairman, President Umaro Embaló of Guinea-Bissau.
The ECOWAS Chairmanship is a rotating position held by one of the heads of state or government from the member countries for a one-year term.
