Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) storm protest ground at the Lagos State Assembly complex.
DSS was seen displaying a show of force where the members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) are currently opposing the removal of fuel subsidy.
The operatives were sighted on the premises of the complex while the NLC converged at the entrance of the gate.
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, had earlier addressed members of the organised labour and called for calm.
However, the protesters have refused to back down, and they are demanding that the government reverse its decision to remove the fuel subsidy.
RocketParrot reported that angry protesters pulled down the gates of the National Assembly in Abuja to gain entrance into the complex.
Members of the NLC were heard chanting “You must go” in the course of the procession.
DSS operatives' presence at the Lagos State Assembly complex is a sign that the government is taking the demonstrations seriously.
It is unclear what the DSS operatives will do, but their presence could indicate that the government is prepared to take action against the Labour Union if necessary.
The demonstrations against the removal of fuel subsidy are ongoing, and it is unclear how long they will last.
The government has said that it is willing to dialogue with the protesters, but it is not clear if the protesters will be willing to back down.
