Google is bolstering its Education suite by introducing Gemini, its advanced AI model, as an add-on for educational institutions through Google Workspace.
The base plan, Gemini Education, is available in English for educators and students over 18, allowing them to utilize Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet, as well as engage in conversations with the AI.
The premium plan, Gemini Education Premium, includes additional features like AI-powered note-taking and summaries in Meet, along with data loss prevention.
Pricing for the base tier is set at $24 per month or $192 per year per user, while the premium plan costs $36 per month or $288 per year per user.
Students over 18 at educational institutions can access Gemini for free without subscribing to either plan.
Gemini comes equipped with new education-focused features, such as step-by-step explanations of topics, practice exercises for students, and the ability to utilize data from sources like Rice University's OpenStax textbooks.
Educators and instructors can leverage Gemini to create lesson plan templates, tailor content to individual student needs, summarize research, provide personalized feedback, and more.
Google also announced LearnLM during Google I/O, a new set of generative AI models designed specifically for the education sector.
LearnLM is already integrated into various products like YouTube, Gemini apps, Google Search, and Google Classroom.
Additionally, Google is adding AI-powered quizzing to academic videos on YouTube.
With these advancements, Google aims to transform the educational landscape by harnessing the power of AI to enhance learning experiences for both students and educators.
