Google is enhancing its in-car infotainment platforms by introducing a range of new apps and streamlining the app approval process for developers.
In a recent announcement, Google revealed that it is introducing two new streaming services, Max and Peacock, to cars with Google built-in.
These services will be available on models from manufacturers such as Renault, Polestar, and Volvo.
However, brands like Ford, Acura, and Honda, which also have Google built-in, currently do not support video streaming while parked.
Additionally, Google is bringing the popular Angry Birds game to cars with Google built-in, allowing users to enjoy gaming entertainment while parked in their vehicles.
Notably, video streaming and gaming apps are only accessible when the vehicle is stationary to minimize distractions.
For Android Auto users, Google is introducing the Uber app, enabling drivers to accept trips, and deliveries, and receive turn-by-turn directions directly from their vehicle's display.
This addition will particularly benefit Uber drivers, enhancing their driving experience.
Furthermore, Google is launching a new Google Cast feature in collaboration with Rivian, enabling customers to cast video content from their phones or tablets directly to the car's display while parked.
This feature offers a convenient way for users to access content in their vehicles.
Google's initiative to expand video streaming apps on its native Android platform follows last year's introduction of YouTube and Prime Video.
Meanwhile, Tesla owners have been enjoying Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube since 2019. The inclusion of additional streaming services reflects Google's commitment to enhancing the in-car entertainment experience for users.
