The lifeless body of Olabode Ibikunle, a senior lecturer at Kogi State University, was discovered in a hotel room after medical professionals declared him dead in Kogi State.
Reports indicate that Ibikunle had checked into the hotel in the Anyigba area with a 200-level female student from the Department of Social Studies for leisure prior to the incident.
The hotel manager, Moses Friday, confirmed that the student, Gloria Samuel, alerted staff about the lecturer's unexpected collapse shortly after their intimate encounter.
Unfortunately, despite efforts to revive him, medical personnel declared him dead at a nearby hospital.
The Kogi State Police Command has announced that an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances of Ibikunle's death.
According to the Command's Public Relations Officer, William Aya, the situation was initially reported to the Anyigba Police Division before being escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for additional probing.
The female student is currently being held by the police, and the next legal steps will be determined based on the findings of the ongoing investigation. An autopsy has been performed to determine the cause of his unexplained death, although the results have not yet been disclosed.
There are unverified claims suggesting that Ibikunle may have consumed alcohol or energy drinks prior to the incident.
The lecturer, who was married and held in high regard within academic circles, was recognized for his strict academic standards.
His sudden passing has ignited conversations within the university community regarding ethical boundaries and suspected inappropriate relationships between lecturers and students.
Kogi State University has not yet issued an official statement regarding the situation.
