Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been formally charged with several sexual offences by the Metropolitan Police Service, as stated in a declaration issued on Friday.
The BBC reports that the Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed the authorization of charges following the submission of evidence by detectives.
According to the CPS, “The Crown Prosecution Service has permitted the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after receiving a file of evidence from investigators.
The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey, aged 32 (born 13/06/1992), from Hertfordshire, in connection with the following allegations: five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.”
The ex-Arsenal midfielder, whose contract ended on Monday, is accused of committing these offences between 2021 and 2022.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is overseeing the case, emphasized that the welfare of those involved is a top priority.
“Our focus remains on supporting the women who have come forward. We encourage anyone who has been affected by this situation, or anyone with information, to reach out to our team.
Partey is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, he stated.
