Dr. Olu Agunloye, a former Minister of Power and Steel, has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The minister, who is from Ondo State's Akoko North Local Government Area, was declared wanted by the anti-graft agency for an alleged case of corruption and forgery.
Agunloye, under President Olusegun Obasanjo, was at the center of the $6 billion Mambilla hydropower contract controversy and had been quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the affair over the years.
Obasanjo had accused Agunloye of mismanagement and inadequate briefings regarding the power project during his 1999–2003 term.
Obasanjo raised doubts about Agunloye’s authority in granting a $6 billion contract to Sunrise Power and Transmission Ltd. for the project in 2003, urging him to explain.
The commission announced this on its website on Wednesday, notifying the public while displaying the image of Dr Agunloye.
The EFCC message read, “Anybody with useful information as to his whereabouts should please contact the Commission in its Benin, Kaduna, Ibadan, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Mardi, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Uyo, Port Harcourt, and Abuja offices or contact 08093322644 or email [email protected] or the nearest police station and any other security agencies.”
Olu Agunloye is a Nigerian politician who is the former Minister of Power and Steel and the former Minister of State for Defense (Navy). In 2016, he joined the Social Democratic Party and became a candidate for governor of Ondo State.
Agunloye has previously been a member of the People's Democratic Party and the Action Congress of Nigeria.
