The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is scheduled to begin producing aviation fuel, or JetA1, and automotive gas oil, or diesel, in January 2024. However, the production of premium motor spirit, or petrol, is currently delayed due to the crude oil supply being delivered in installments.
On Sunday, information surfaced indicating that the plant would need six million barrels of crude oil at the very least to begin producing refined petroleum products, such as AGO, PMS, Jet A1, and Dual Purpose Kerosene, or kerosene.
However, the $20 billion refinery only received one million barrels of crude last week; the remaining five million barrels would arrive at the facility in five more installments.
Situated in the Dangote Industries Free Zone, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemical Project is a 650,000 barrels per day crude oil refinery and a subsidiary of Dangote Industries Limited.
It was reported on November 2, 2023, that the domestic refineries, notably the multibillion-dollar Dangote refinery, were unable to receive crude oil, which caused a halt to the facilities' production of refined petroleum products.
In addition, the report indicated that the scarcity of crude oil was caused by the 650,000 barrels per day that the Dangote Refinery in Lagos failed to produce in October 2023, which was the second time in 2023 that the refinery would raise hopes in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, of a potential end to fuel imports.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited promptly announced on November 3, 2023, that it was scheduled to supply six million barrels of crude oil to the Dangote Refinery, but it has not yet done so.
On Friday, the management of Dangote Refinery confirmed the receipt of one million barrels of crude oil, adding that this would lead to the production of refined products at the facility.
