Having made 200 international appearances, Cristiano Ronaldo is the first male player to acquire the Guinness World Records certification.
He marked the occasion by scoring the game-winning goal in the 89th minute of Portugal's 1-0 victory over Iceland on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, in a qualification match for the European Championships.
Before the game began, Guinness World Records recognized Ronaldo, 38, for playing in 200 games for Portugal, over 20 years after his debut.
He was able to score the late winner from close range, keeping Portugal on track for Euro 2024 qualifying with its fourth victory out of four games in Group J.
"Victory with a unique flavor," Ronaldo stated after accepting the trophy. "Not just for the occasion, the memorial, or the 200th game… I couldn't ask for more, especially with a goal to cap it off. Because of all it brought about for the game, it was amazing and unforgettable. I must express my gratitude to the federation and the Icelanders for the surprise. Guinness World Records, too."
