In a recent announcement made on Thursday, WhatsApp revealed its plans to update its mobile apps with a fresh and more streamlined look, along with the introduction of a new "darker dark mode."
The messaging platform emphasized the importance of evolving its design to match its user base's growth and changing needs.
The update includes a revamped colour palette, carefully selected after considering more than 35 colours.
WhatsApp opted for deeper tones to reduce eye strain, particularly in low-light environments. The dark mode, a highly favoured feature among users, has been adjusted to be one shade darker, enhancing the readability of messages.
To improve user experience on Android devices, WhatsApp is introducing a native bottom navigation bar. This feature, already available on iOS, enables users to quickly access chats, updates, communities, and calls, enhancing navigation efficiency.
For iOS users, the update brings a more user-friendly way to send photos and videos. A new attachment layout replaces the full-screen menu, providing an expandable tray for clearer options when sending media, polls, documents, and other content.
Additionally, WhatsApp is refreshing its icons with a rounded, outlined style, giving the app a modernized appearance. Furthermore, the default background in chats is being updated to enhance visual appeal and consistency across the platform.
With these updates, WhatsApp aims to not only improve functionality but also enhance aesthetics and user engagement within its messaging app.
