Kashim Shettima has stated that Kizz Daniel and Tekno's 2023 hit song, 'Buga,' is on the verge of becoming the country's second national anthem.
Shettima, whose 'Buga' dance video went viral last year, told Arise TV that he entered the competition to exhibit Nigeria's arts and culture to the rest of the globe.
The government aims to achieve its "Nigeria Destination 2030" objective through encouraging arts and culture.
He said, ”We have a grand vision called ‘Nigeria Destination 2030.’ We cannot run away from the fact that Nigerian arts and culture are creating waves on the global scene. And Nigeria has been off the global scene for quite some time. This is an avenue for us to re-introduce Nigeria. And the ‘Buga’ dance is almost becoming our second national anthem. So we have to showcase Nigeria.”
The Buga track, which was released in May 2022, was listed as the number one song in this year’s Google search by Nigerians. The track has generated more than 100 million views on YouTube. Buga is one of the 2022 most popular songs in Nigeria and also number one on Apple Music’s Top 100 Chart in Africa’s most populous nation.
The track featured Tekno and other top-class singers from Nigeria. Kizz Daniel had earlier explained that ‘Buga’ means to'show 'off' and to honour one’s hard work, accomplishments, and devotion.
Celebrating the achievement in a tweet on Twitter, the singer acknowledged his followers for their constant support and attributed his success to God’s grace.
He wrote, “Celebrate your success, no matter the matter. It attracts more than 100 million views in five months. Thank you. I am grateful. This is my first 100 million views on content on YouTube, and many more to come by HIS GRACE, BUGA.”
