The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has announced a rise in the average costs of cooking gas and kerosene throughout Nigeria for June 2025.
This was detailed in the NBS "Cooking Gas Price Watch" report released on Thursday in Abuja. According to the report, the average cost of 5kg of cooking gas increased by 1.92 percent to N8,323.95, up from N8,167.43 in May.
Compared to the same month last year, this shows a 19.49 percent rise from N6,966.03 in June 2024. Delta State experienced the highest average price at N9,243.38, while Oyo reported the lowest at N7,100.00.
Regionally, the South-South zone had the highest average cost at N8,871.63, while the South-West had the lowest at N7,960.42. Additionally, the average price of 12.5 kg of cooking gas rose by 1.46 percent to N21,010.56 in June, compared to N20,709.11 in May.
This reflects a 33.52 percent year-on-year increase from N15,736.27 in June 2024. Delta, Cross River, and Rivers had the highest prices, whereas Yobe, Niger, and Jigawa recorded the lowest.
In its Kerosene Price Watch for June 2025, the NBS reported that the average cost per litre of kerosene climbed to N2,192.63, a 0.80 percent rise from N2,175.29 in May.
Year-on-year, this signifies a 41.00 percent increase from N1,555.11 in June 2024. Kaduna posted the highest average price at N2,681.58, while Abia had the lowest at N1,659.35.
The average cost per gallon of kerosene also surged by 2.38 percent to N8,684.15 in June from N8,482.22 in May, and rose by 52.39 percent compared to N5,698.68 in June 2024.
The report indicated that Edo noted the highest price per gallon at N10,321.63, with Abia having the lowest at N6,737.40.
The NBS stated that the South-South zone consistently recorded the highest average prices across all petroleum products, while the South-West had the lowest.
