NIJ to Become Degree Awarding Institute — Osoba

The Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ) is on the verge of transitioning from its current status to a degree-awarding institute, according to the Chairman of the NIJ Governing Council, Aremo Olusegun Osoba.

Osoba, speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 350-seater Kesington Adebutu Media Resource Auditorium at the institute, assured stakeholders of this development. 

He emphasized that the new auditorium, donated by Sir Kesington Adebutu, would significantly enhance the journalism profession in Nigeria.

"The journalism profession in Nigeria has made significant strides, but there's room for further growth. NIJ aims to lead the way in journalism education, and under the leadership of Segun Osoba, we are working diligently to elevate the institute to a degree-awarding status," Osoba stated.

He highlighted the importance of this transformation, stating that NIJ would soon join the ranks of esteemed institutions like UNILAG and LASU in offering Mass Communication programs. He expressed confidence in NIJ's potential to excel in journalism education.

Regarding the donated auditorium, Osoba praised the initiative, acknowledging its value in advancing journalism education. 

He commended the Provost and his team for their efforts in kickstarting the project.

Sir Kesington Adebutu, the benefactor behind the auditorium, expressed his commitment to supporting the journalism profession in Nigeria. 

He emphasized that the auditorium was a gesture of giving back to society and supporting the growth of journalism.

Representing Sir Kesington Adebutu at the event, Mr Kola Oyefeso reiterated the foundation's dedication to societal development through initiatives like the donated auditorium.
