Adobe has unveiled a suite of new generative AI tools for its Photoshop creative software, designed to offer users enhanced control over the designs they create.

Ely Greenfield, Chief Technology Officer for Digital Media at Adobe, announced in a press release, on Tuesday, and said, "These innovative tools, powered by Adobe's cutting-edge Firefly Image 3 foundation model, are now available via the Photoshop beta desktop app, with a full release expected later this year, as per Adobe's official press release."

He emphasizes the convenience of this feature, stating, "Prompting is a pain in the butt... If you have an image that you've created that's exactly the thing you want to reference, why spend an hour trying to craft a three-paragraph prompt?"

One of the most prominent additions is the Reference Image tool, which leverages user-uploaded images to inspire the output generated by Adobe's AI.

By matching similar elements in style and colour, this tool streamlines the design process, allowing users to provide reference images instead of crafting lengthy prompt descriptions.

Users must ensure they have the rights to use the images they upload as references, with Adobe implementing measures to flag this requirement and working on a universal "do not train" tag through its Content Authenticity Initiative.

Despite placing ownership responsibility on users, Adobe assures that the referencing tool is safe for commercial use, a key advantage over rival generative AI models.

In addition to Reference Image, the Photoshop beta app introduces other AI-driven features, including Generate Background, Enhance Detail, Generate Similar, and Generate Image.

These tools empower users to replace backgrounds, enhance image clarity, produce similar content, and generate entire images from text descriptions.

Moreover, Adobe's latest Firefly model, available for public beta testing via the Firefly web application, promises photorealistic quality enhancements with better lighting, positioning, and attention to detail.

This third-generation model excels at understanding descriptive text prompts and produces clearer text in generated images.

Beyond AI advancements, Adobe is rolling out standard tools to expedite creative workflows in Photoshop, such as an Adjustment Brush for non-destructive changes, Adjustment Presets for quick image transformations, and an improved Font Browser with real-time access to over 25,000 fonts in Adobe's cloud.

With these innovative additions, Adobe continues to push the boundaries of creativity and efficiency in digital design, offering users unprecedented capabilities to bring their visions to life within the Photoshop ecosystem.
