The Lagos State Government has announced the establishment of a Cybersecurity Operations Centre (CSOC) to proactively monitor, detect, and respond to cyber threats in real time within the state.
Commissioner for Science, Innovation and Technology, Mr Olatunbosun Alake, revealed the development at the Year 2024 Ministerial Press Briefing, emphasizing the centre's use of advanced technologies and a team of cybersecurity experts to safeguard the state's digital infrastructure.
In addition to the CSOC, Lagos has formed a cybersecurity council comprising public and private sector experts. The council will advise the government on cybersecurity policies, programs, and training initiatives.
To bolster its cybersecurity capabilities, the government is partnering with leading cybersecurity firms and international organizations to access cutting-edge technologies and expertise, further enhancing its defence against sophisticated cyber threats.
In a statement, the state government detailed the Data Protection Compliance Project, which has included sensitization and awareness workshops for government officials and the establishment of 70 Data Protection Officers across various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
The project aims to protect individuals' data privacy, prevent data manipulation, and maintain competitiveness in international trade.
The commissioner also highlighted the state's MetroFibre project, which aims to establish a 24-hour driven economy by providing a safe and secure environment for businesses to operate.
The project has already seen the implementation of 2,700km of unified fibre ducts across the state in Phase I, with an additional 3,300km planned for Phase II.
Additionally, the Safe City Project involves the deployment of intelligent video cameras in strategic locations across the state to enhance security and create a more conducive environment for businesses and job creation.
