The Kano State Government is working on creating a State Transport Policy to address the current transportation issues in the state.
The goal of the policy, according to the State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Muhammad Ibrahim Diggol, is to establish a structure for making well-informed transportation decisions that will result in efficient and effective transportation systems.
Diggol also mentioned that the development of the policy includes seeking input from stakeholders to review the initial document and welcome their contributions and constructive feedback to enhance the final policy.
The commissioner brought attention to the significant obstacles in establishing modern transportation to accommodate the state's growing population and commercial status.
He emphasized the importance of convenient access to social amenities, markets, and industries in order to improve the quality of life and promote economic growth.
Diggol stated, "The transport policy will act as a framework for comprehensive transportation development, creating a conducive environment for private sector involvement in the state's transportation economy."
The Commissioner explained, "The policy encompasses public transport services, standards for regulating quality and quantity, land use and urban planning, traffic management, rail mass transit, as well as water and air transportation."
Diggol emphasized that "The vision and mission of the transportation development are in line with the Kano State Development Master Plan, with the goal of ensuring easy access to socio-economic activities for all residents while maintaining environmental standards, and establishing a modern multimodal transport system that meets the needs of the people and aligns with world-class city standards."
