The Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, have ordered their supporters to stay at home from May 8 to May 11 in the state, while the Ebonyi State Police Command has ordered its citizens to defy this order.
Faleye Olaleye, the state's commissioner of police, deemed the sit-at-home order unlawful.
In a statement, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the command's spokesman, summarized Olaleye's order.
Onovwakpoyeya quoted Olaleye as saying that such a command was illegal and could not stand.
Police are aware of the rumored request for individuals to observe a sit-at-home protest from May 8 to May 11, 2023, made by an organization going by the name of IPOB.
"The police are ready," he continued, "so the people of Ebonyi should discountenance the order and go about their lawful business without fear of intimidation."
He exhorted residents of the state to go about their daily business fearlessly.
Olaleye urged citizens to alert the police about any threats to their safety.
