Indian businessmen, professionals and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in Nigeria, held a campaign session for Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s third term re-election in Lagos.
Mr Sanjay Srivastava, one of the organisers of the campaign and Convener of Overseas Friends of Bharatiya Janata Party (OFBJP) Nigeria, disclosed this in a statement.
India’s election is slated to be held from April 19 to June 1.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be contesting for his term in the forth-coming election.
Srivastava said the campaign held at three different locations in Lagos, was aimed at encouraging Indians residing in Nigeria to actively participate in the upcoming Indian general elections.
“Approximately, 100 NRIs joined forces to urge their fellow Indians to engage in ground campaigning in India and encourage friends and family members to exercise their voting rights in support of Prime Minister Modi.
“The primary objective of the campaign was to mobilise the Indian community in Nigeria to actively participate in the electoral process in India,” he said.
Also, Pravin Kumar, General Secretary of OFBJP, emphasised the significance of their involvement in shaping the future of Indians.
“We remain committed to mobilising the Indian diaspora in Nigeria and ensuring their active participation in the electoral process back in India,” he said.
